In many cases, the high voltage insulation test is required to be performed at a frequency of 50/60 Hz, called a Power frequency withstand test. This requires significantly higher input of energy and is in many cases challenging to implement on components with high capacitance in the field.
But on shorter samples, e.g. on duplex cables in substation or on cable samples/joints/terminations as a part of a FAT or RD projects we can perform this type oftesting.
We now perform testing of such components with a test voltage up to 120 kV (7.2 kVA)
As extra quality assurance, the insulation test can be combined with partial discharge measurement. This also reveals minor deviations that in the long run can lead to a breakdown.
