Commissioning of cable systems

Commissioning is a systematic process of verifying newly-installed, refitted equipment or systems before it is put into service. It is performed to ensure that the system operates according to its design, and to confirm the intended safety and reliability.

VLF whithstand test

The purpose of a withstand test is to verify the integrity of the cable under test. If the cable has a defect severe enough at the test voltage, an electrical tree will initiate. Inception of an tree growth are functions of several factors including test voltage, source frequency and amplitude and the geometry of the defect. The VLF Withstand test is a pass/fail test and will not give ane future condition information. If desired, the test must be combined with a VLF TD or VLF PD, preferably both.

Cable commissioing according to;IEEE 400.2-2013,   IEC 60502-2 or Cenelec HD 620
•Good insulation will be unaffected

•Reveals; Production deviations, poor workmanship and aging.

•Uses sinusoidal, 0.1Hz HV waveform

•Up to 30 km cable can be tested
