Condition assessment of high voltage cable system 66-132 kV with Damped AC (DAC) testing

Neka offers high voltage testing with sensitive PD & TD diagnosis of cable systems up to 132 kV. With a complete cable diagnosis, the actual condition of the cable system is revealed. The test is performed on all types of cable systems with lengths up to 20 km, for cables with lengths over 10 km, two-sided PD measurement is used.


This type of testing is performed in conjunction with;

  1. Quality assurance of new cable systems

  2. Condition monitoring of aged cable systems

  3. Residual life assessment

  4. Verification after repair


High voltage test:

Cable is subjected to a short-term overvoltage equal to 1.4-1.7 x phase/phase voltage. With short-term overvoltage, this test puts low stress on the insulation. The overvoltage is necessary to reveal weaknesses that are only triggered by transient overvoltages.


Partial discharges (PD):

PD is considered the largest contributor to failures in high-voltage components.

During the HS test, the cable is monitored for PD activity. If there are weaknesses that generate PD, these will be detected and located with a sensitivity of less than 1% of the total cable length.


TanDelta (TD):

TD measurement is a tool to reveal the general aging of the insulation medium. TD is particularly useful for cables with paper insulation.

The test is in accordance with relevant standards and norms:

During the PD test, weaknesses are located so that they can be "easily" corrected.

The test equipment has a small footprint
